Coast Guard: Boater Dies After Rescue Off Va Beach

The Coast Guard says it is investigating the death of a Virginia Beach man who was medevaced from a commercial diving ship about 10 miles off the Virginia coast.

Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill says the approximately 50-year-old man was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after being taken the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. The victim's name has not been released.

The captain of the 48-foot Miss Lindsey contacted the Coast Guard around 10:30 a.m. after a man became unconscious.

The Coast Guard, Virginia Beach Fire Department and emergency medical services all responded by boat and administered CPR to the unconscious man as the ship headed back to shore. The Coast Guard crew transferred the diver and an emergency medical technician aboard their boat before being transported to the hospital.
