Construction of a Dominion Power natural gas-fired plant is under way in Warren County. The $1.1 billion power plant is being built three miles north of Front Royal.
Cathy Green with contractor Zachry Industrial Inc. tells The Winchester Star that the company has received 368 applications for construction jobs so far. Forty-three workers have been hired, including 26 who will work for subcontractor Russo.
At the peak of construction in early 2014, up to 900 workers will be employed at the site.
The 1,239-megawatt plant is expected to begin delivering power by December 2014. It will employ about 30 people after it opens.
