Virginia State Police say a truck driver has died after his tanker truck overturned and leaked diesel fuel onto U.S. Route 460 in Bedford County.
State Police spokesman Robert Carpentieri tells media outlets that 31-year-old Adam K. Henry of Lynchburg was the driver of the truck that crashed Monday near Montvale.
Carpentieri says Henry wasn't wearing a seat belt and had to be cut from the cab of his truck. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the truck was carrying up to 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel and several thousand gallons were spilled onto the highway. The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours and about 50 nearby homes were evacuated.
