Man Wanted for Attempted Kidnapping at School Bus Stops

October 11, 2010

Culpeper law enforcement agencies and school officials are seeking the public’s help identifying a man who attempted to lure elementary school children into his vehicle in the Redwood Lakes and Lakeview area subdivisions Friday.

The man, described as a middle-aged white male, with gray hair and driving a blue vehicle, attempted to entice children to get into his vehicle at school bus stops in the morning and again in the afternoon.

The suspect was targeting children between the ages of 10 and 12. None of the children he approached got in his vehicle.

Police Lt. Chris Settle said the vehicle is either a blue SUV, mini-van or a boxy crossover vehicle.

“We don’t want people to panic, just be observant,” said Culpeper County Sheriff’s Sgt. Owen Bullard.

Culpeper County Public Schools Director of Administrative Services Dr. Russell Houck urged parents to supervise their children at bus stops.

Anyone with information about Friday’s incidents or any similar unreported situations in town should contact Culpeper Detective Sgt. Andrew Terrill at 540-829-5521.
