Deadly I-81 Traffic Collision Ruled Suicide

Virginia State Police have identified the woman killed Wednesday night on Interstate-81 in Augusta County.

Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller says Jamie Tompkins, 53, of Buena Vista, was struck and killed by a logging truck near mile marker 216, south of Mint Spring. She says the crash has been ruled a suicide.

Tompkins pulled her van over to the shoulder and was walking in the right hand lane when she was struck, according to authorities.

The driver of the logging truck has been identified as 21-year-old Jimmie St. John II, of Keysville. He will not been charged.

Police say no other vehicles were involved in the collision.
