Dominion Virginia Power plans to make disaster-related improvements at its Louisa County nuclear power station while one of the reactors is shut down for refueling and maintenance.
Unit 1 was powered down over the weekend at North Anna facility.
Media outlets report that Dominion plans to install connections for hoses and external power supplies that could be used if the plant lost power and cooling water supplies during an emergency.
The improvements are in response to a 2011 earthquake and tsunami that damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant on Japan's northern coast.
