MINERAL, Va. (AP) - Dominion Virginia Power's North Anna nuclear power plant will undergo a new seismic risk assessment.

The Louisa County plant's two nuclear reactors are among 47 in the central and eastern U.S. that require additional studies to determine whether their designs protect them from earthquake hazards.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will decide whether significant upgrades will be required at any of the plants, once the assessments are complete.

Dominion Nuclear president David A. Heacock says he doesn't believe the North Anna plant will require any significant modifications.

North Anna was shut down for several months in 2011 following a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck central Virginia. Measured ground movement was about twice the level for which the plant was built.
