The polar vortex our area felt this winter isn't only impacting this year’s allergy season, it's also impacting fuel rates for Dominion Virginia Power.
The power company is asking the Virginia State Corporation Commission for a 4.1 percent increase in residential customer rates as a way to cover the higher costs of natural gas used at its power station during this year’s extremely cold winter.
If approved, the increase would take effect July 1st.
Power bills would go up about $5 per month for the average customer.
