Dominion Virginia Power is accepting applications from people who need help paying their heating bills.
The Richmond-based utility said in a news release that those eligible for its EnergyShare program can receive a one-time payment of up to $600 per season. The payments go directly to the energy companies.
To qualify, people must be at risk of losing an important heat source, meet income-based eligibility requirements, be unemployed or demonstrate a personal or family crisis.
EnergyShare received more than $5 million in donations and assisted more than 12,500 households last winter.
