The Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond has a week remaining on its fundraising effort to preserve and publish illustrations of the writer's famous 1845 poem, "The Raven."
Museum officials hope to raise $60,000 through the Internet crowd-funding site Kickstarter for the nearly 130-year-old illustrations by English artist James Carling.
Carling's drawings were once an important part of the museum's collection since the 1930s and were on display for 40 years.
But the illustrations were glued to cardboard, causing them to darken and deteriorate over the years. Museum officials are looking to safeguard the drawings for generations to come.
As of Friday, the museum has raised more than $43,800. However, it won't get any of the funds unless their goal is met by Nov. 15.
