English Company Bids to Operate Va. Ammunition Plant

November 5, 2010

BAE Systems Ordnance Systems is making a bid to operate the government-owned Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Montgomery and Pulaski counties.

BAE spokesman Neil Franz told "The Roanoke Times" that the company believes its proposal provides innovative ideas, cost-effective solutions and demonstrated past performance.

Based in England, BAE operates Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Minneapolis-based Alliant Techsystems has operated the nearly 7,000-acre Virginia facility since 1995. Andrew Crickenberger with Alliant Techsystems says the company is confident it will be the winning bidder for the new ten-year contract.

The existing contract expires March 31.
