VIENNA, Va. (AP) - A Fairfax County teenager has been shot and killed outside a hotel in Vienna.

Fairfax County police say officers were called to the Residence Inn on Westwood Center Drive in Vienna early Sunday morning for the report of a person who was shot. Police responded to the scene about 2 a.m.

Officers found 16-year-old Gerard Gomez of Mount Vernon on a sidewalk and tried to resuscitate him. Police say Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

WTOP Radio reports Gomez was a junior at Mount Vernon High School. Principal Nardos King sent a notice to parents and guardians in the school community, and counselors will be available to students beginning Monday.

Investigators are looking for witnesses and any information in the case.
