ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - The families of the victims of the 2007 mass shooting at Virginia Tech are offering their condolences to those affected by the Connecticut elementary school shooting.
The Virginia Tech Victims Family Outreach Foundation issued a statement on Saturday. The nonprofit group was created by a majority of the families of the victims and survivors of the April 16, 2007, mass shooting at the Blacksburg school that left 33 dead, including the gunman.
The Roanoke Times reports that the statement offers condolences and the services of the group's crisis response team.
Foundation president Joe Samaha says the immediate concern is for the families in Newtown "whose lives are now altered, forever." His daughter Reema was killed in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
