Fewer Virginians to Travel for Independence Day Weekend

July 2, 2013

Travel organization AAA expects fewer people to hit the road in the Commonwealth for Independence Day weekend.

The auto club is forecasting that more than 1.1 million Virginians will travel at least 50 miles from home, roughly 1.4 percent less than last year.

They believe the decline is due to o a shorter holiday period and higher gas prices. This year's holiday period runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
