Fighter Squadron's Command Master Chief Removed for Misconduct

March 29, 2012

The Navy says the command master chief of Strike Fighter Squadron 131 has been relieved of his duties due to misconduct stemming from allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Master Chief Petty Officer Joseph Storms was fired from the post on Tuesday by Capt. Samuel Paparo, commander of Carrier Air Wing 7. The air wing is currently aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

During a non-judicial punishment hearing, Storms was found to have failed to obey a lawful order from a superior commissioned officer and to have violated a lawful general order.

Paparo determined that Storms couldn't continue to serve in the position of trust and confidence held by a command master chief.

A replacement for Storms is scheduled to report in August.
