Forecasters Make Winter Weather Predictions

October 21, 2010

Forecasters say this winter will be warm and dry in the South, while the Pacific Northwest is facing a colder and wetter than normal season.

Deputy Climate Prediction Center Director Mike Halpert says drought could spread in the Southeast, particularly Florida.

He says a big factor in the outlook is the ongoing La Niña conditions in the tropical Pacific Ocean, a warming of the water that affects the movement of weather patterns across the country.

But, he added, the outlook is not guaranteed.
