Foreclosure Auction Set for Virginia State Fair Property

April 4, 2012

A foreclosure auction is scheduled for May 22 at the former State Fair of Virginia property in Caroline County.

An attorney representing the State Fair of Virginia Inc.'s creditors says that the 360 acres of Meadow Event Park and some personal property will be auctioned. Intellectual property, including the State Fair of Virginia name and website domain, will be offered the same day.

Other personal property will be sold through a 10-day online auction.

The sale comes after the nonprofit liquidated its assets under federal bankruptcy law after continued losses and heavy debt.

The State Fair of Virginia bought the property in 2003 and moved the fair from Richmond to Caroline County, where it was held from 2009 to 2011.
