Gas Leak Causes Detour in Culpeper

June 20, 2012

A gas leak on Germanna Highway has forced Culpeper police and public works crews to detour traffic off Germanna Highway (Route 3) at its intersection with McDevitt Drive and closer to town at Germanna Highway Orange Road (Route 15).

Crews from Columbia Gas are on scene handling the leak at the entrance to the Allied Concrete plant. The leak was reported about 1:45 p.m.

No homes were evacuated as a result of the leak.

Town Public Works crews set cones and signs out at the two intersections affected by the closure. A message board for westbound traffic on Germanna Highway will direct traffic downtown to Chandler Street or the north side of town via Nalles Mill Road.

That section of Germanna Highway could be closed a minimum of two hours up to about 8 p.m.
