Gov. Bob McDonnell is toasting Virginia's wine industry for its showing at the 2012 San Francisco International Wine Competition.
Virginia wines took home 24 medals in the competition, which featured 4,500 wines from 26 states and 29 countries. Barboursville Vineyards took home Best of Show in one category for its dessert wine.
Other vintners returning with medals were Ingleside, Grey Ghost, Keswick and Narmada vineyards.
McDonnell has been a big promoter of Virginia wines. The state has more than 200 wineries and is ranked fifth in the nation for wine grape production.
According to McDonnell's office, Virginia's wine industry contributes about $747 million annually to the state's economy.
