Historic Va. Theatre Could Set Attendance Record

October 21, 2010

The historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon is on track to set an attendance record.

Marketing Director Danielle Goodrich told "The Bristol Herald Courier" that attendance is expected to exceed 160,000 people by the end of the season December 26.

The economy could be a factor. Goodrich says people usually seek entertainment closer to home to save money in a down economy.

She also says Barter officials are posting video clips on YouTube and Facebook to attract more visitors.

The Barter Theatre opened in 1933 during the Depression. Admission to see a play then was 35 cents or the equivalent in produce.
