MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - One person has been injured after a hydrogen tank exploded at a Prince William County research site, shooting through the ceiling and crashing back into the building.
Kim Hylander, a spokeswoman with the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue, said the accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Monday. The extent of the person's injuries was not immediately known.
Hylander said some sort of "hydrogen air pressure vessel" detonated and crashed through a building ceiling twice, once on launch and once on landing. She said hazardous material crews and building inspectors responded to the scene.
The accident occurred at a company called Utron Inc., at a research park near the Manassas campus of George Mason University. Utron specializes in high-velocity projectile launches, according to the company's website.
