IRS: Roughly 26,000 Va. Taxpayers Have Unclaimed Refunds for 2010

March 20, 2014

The Internal Revenue Service says an estimated 26,300 taxpayers in Virginia could be owed federal tax refunds for 2010.

The IRS is holding more than $22 million in unclaimed refunds for Virginians who didn't file a federal return in 2010.

Half of those potential refunds are estimated at more than $500.

The IRS says some people might not have been required to file returns because they didn't have enough income, taxes were still withheld from their wages or they made estimated payments.

Taxpayers must file a return for 2010 no later than April 15th to collect this money.
