Agustin Rivera-Santana was sentenced Friday in federal court in Richmond. He pleaded guilty June 23.
According to court documents, Rivera-Santana has been deported three times after scrapes with the law, including a manslaughter conviction for shooting his pregnant wife in California. He spent nine years in prison for that offense.
Most recently, he was convicted of sexual battery and attempted forcible sodomy of a minor in Virginia Beach in 2006. While serving his six-year sentence, he was charged again with illegal re-entry.
His current prison term ends in March.
