Internal Investigation into Va. Shooting Death Continues

November 12, 2010

Fairfax County police say an internal investigation into a shooting by an officer one year ago is still ongoing.

The victim, 52-year-old David Masters, was shot to death on November 13, 2009, as he sat unarmed in his truck on Route 1.

Police say the officer who shot Masters remains on administrative duties, and police haven't taken any action against him. Police have not identified the officer, who was cleared of criminal wrongdoing by prosecutors.

A federal civil rights investigation into Masters' shooting also continues unresolved.

Attorney Jon Shields, Masters' brother-in-law, says it's "frankly not acceptable" that the department has yet to make a decision about the officer.
