The lawyer for a Fort Bragg soldier accused of stabbing a Virginia paratrooper to death says it was a tragic accident.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that Maj. Lance Daniels argued Tuesday that his client, Spc. Nicholas Bailey, shouldn't face criminal charges for the July death of Spc. Morganne McBeth.
The 19-year-old native of Fredericksburg, Virginia was preparing to return home after a 12-month tour in Iraq when she was stabbed and killed.
Thirty witnesses testified Monday and Tuesday in a hearing to determine whether Bailey will face a court-martial. He's charged with involuntary manslaughter and conspiring to obstruct justice.
Another soldier, Spc. Tyler Cain, faces a court-martial on charges he lied to investigators about the incident.
