LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- A federal investigation into the spill near Charleston, West Virginia is forthcoming.

In the meantime, The Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending a million liters of bottled water from Maryland.

But FEMA isn't the only one running water across state lines. Gleaning for the World in Lynchburg is also stepping up. We caught up with the staff there just hours ago as they loaded 5 trucks ready to help.

Some 300,000 West Virginia residents are still without clean water after a chemical spill near Charleston. Over 200 miles away, just outside Lynchburg, Gleaning For The World was ready to help when FEMA called.

"We have moved 5 tractor trailer loads today, they'll be unloaded tonight and tomorrow morning and be immediately distributed, about 110-thousand bottles of water," Reverend Ron Davidson told Your Hometown News Leader.

Seems like a lot, but with over 9 counties affected by the spill, Davidson says the need is greater than expected.

"They thought originally that this would be about a 24 hour event but now they're saying it could be anywhere from a week to 10 days to 2 weeks. So we're going to have to keep supplying water."

The trucks will arrive at latest, Saturday morning but these bottles will only last 24-48 hours. Davidson says the organization depends of the generosity of others.

"We get donations from nestle, we get donations from other non-profits we're having to buy water for the first time in the first time in over a year."
