Man Accused Of Shooting Va Man Who Cut In Line

August 8, 2012

A Norfolk man charged with fatally shooting another man at a pharmacy says he was picking up medicine when the victim cut in front of him.

Bernell Benn told The Virginian-Pilot in an interview at Norfolk City Jail that he was defending himself after Ramon P. Colorado Jr. cut in line and then hit Benn with pepper spray.

Police charged the 41-year-old Benn with second-degree murder and felony use of a firearm in Thursday's shooting.

After Benn was hit with pepper spray, police say he fired a handgun at Colorado, who then pulled out a weapon and shot back.

The Pilot says Colorado was terminated in 1996 after two years as a Norfolk sheriff's deputy. He also worked as an auxiliary deputy and sergeant in Chesapeake.
