Man Who Brought 'High Powered Rifle' Sign into School Indicted

Oct. 18, 2013

A grand jury has indicted a Strasburg man who brought a sign reading "high powered rifle" into an elementary school.

Christopher Johnson, 33, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct for the December scare at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Strasburg, Virginia.

A Shenandoah County Circuit Court grand jury returned the indictment on Wednesday.

Police say Johnson carried the sign into the school days after a gunman killed a total of 26 students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

Authorities say Johnson told police he was trying to deliver a message about school safety.
