Man Charged with Murder of Va. Community College Student

January 26, 2011

Authorities say a 20-year-old Boones Mill man has been charged with killing a Virginia Western Community College student.

Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt said Jerrold Thomas "Tommy" Greene III is charged with first-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a murder.

Greene was arrested in the slaying of 19-year-old Alexander Charles Ernandes of Moneta, who had been missing since Thursday. The sheriff's office said Ernandes had been shot multiple times with a large caliber handgun.

Hunt said Ernandes and Greene had been friends when they were in ROTC at Franklin County High School.

Hunt said Greene told investigators where to find the body. He was being held at the Franklin County Jail without bond.
