The chairman and CEO of meat producer Bar-S Foods Co. is giving $12 million to help complete exhibits about Marines who served since Vietnam at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in northern Virginia.
Timothy T. Day announced the gift from his foundation Tuesday. The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is working to add new galleries to the Marine museum near Washington to recognize those who served since 1975.
New galleries are scheduled to open in 2017. They will include exhibits on Marines' history in Beirut, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Somalia and more than a decade of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The foundation is working to raise $64 million to complete the project.
The museum group says Day's gift also will fund an overlook in a memorial park.
