NC Company to Rebuild Va. Forest Lookout Tower

July 9, 2013

WISE, Va. (AP) - Work will begin in July on construction of a new High Knob Tower in the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia.

The original three-story tower was destroyed by arson on Oct. 31, 2007.

The U.S. Forest Service says it awarded a contract for the replacement project to Dot Construction of Beaufort, N.C. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

High Knob Enhancement Corp. chairman Lu Ellsworth tells the Bristol Herald Courier that he's pleased to hear that the contract was awarded.

The group is among more than 600 organizations and individuals who worked on a plan to rebuild the tower.

The tower will be located adjacent to the High Knob Recreation Area.
