The nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to protecting Civil War battlefields has a new name.
The Civil War Trust is the streamlined new name for what was formerly known as the Civil War Preservation Trust.
The trust announced its shortened name late Monday in a letter to its 55,000 members.
The trust's president, James Lighthizer, said the organization concluded the time was right to modernize its image as the nation prepares to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
The trust also rolled out a new logo, which features the silhouettes of two soldiers each bearing a flag.
