One person was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision along Route 259 near Fulks Run in Rockingham County Saturday night.

Dwight Custard, 22 of Mount Jackson, died at the scene. Twenty-year-old Brooke Stover, of McGaheysville, and 24-year-old Daniel Spitzer, of Fulks Run, were transported to Rockingham Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The crash happened around 8:30 Saturday night. Virginia State police say both Custard and Spitzer were driving pick-up trucks when they collided head-on. Investigators say it's unclear which vehicle was at fault and police say that Custard was not wearing a seat belt.

Neighbors near the accident scene say that the stretch of road is dangerous.

"This road is a 50 mile zone. It's a highway and it has only two lanes. You can make a mistake easily because there's only two lanes," neighbor Sarah Kim explained.

VSP are working with a crash reconstruction team to investigate the wreck.
