Outages Close 3 Va. State Parks, Remainder Open

Three state parks in Virginia are closed because of power outages but 31 others remain open.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation says a series of severe storms knocked out electritiy at four parks.

James River State Park in Buckingam County is reopening Tuesday after power was restored Monday.

Douthat in Allegehany and Bath counties, Holliday Lake in Appomattox County and Mason Neck in Fairfax County will remain closed until electricity is restored.

Visitors who had to leave these parks over the weekend will be offered refunds.

State Parks Director Joe Elton says in a news release that the storms were a disruption. But statewide, the park system is ready for visitors on July 4 and in the following days and weeks.
