The Virginia State Board of Elections busted a rumor Friday. Unknown callers are giving Virginia voters false information.
These unidentified people are calling Virginia voters, especially seniors, telling them they can vote over the phone.
They are not sure how widespread the calls have been but complaints have been called in for the past few days. The Albemarle County Registrar wants to make it clear to city and county voters that this is not true.
"You cannot vote in Virginia by telephone, you cannot vote in Virginia by email, you cannot vote in Virginia by fax," said Jake Washburne of the Albemarle County Registrar. "You have to be registered to vote either in your precinct on election day or vote by absentee ballot."
Washburne said even though you can call in your vote for Dancing With the Stars, you cannot vote for the President of the United States over the telephone.
Monday, October 16th at 5 p.m. is the deadline to register to vote.
