Police Seek Identity of Woman in Check Scam

May 21, 2013

Culpeper Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a woman who presented an alleged counterfeit check at a local check-cashing service in early May.

The black female, who presented a GMAC Financial Services check for several thousand dollars, used a Chesapeake woman’s Virginia identification card.

Investigators say the check cashing company spoke to the Chesapeake woman who said her identification had been stolen.

The suspect arrived on foot and left walking on Main Street toward Williams Street.

She gave an address in Orange County, but the person who lives at that address has lived there for many years and did not know the suspect.

Anyone with information as to the identity of the woman may contact Detective Brooking at 540-829-5504 or anonymously call Crime Solvers at 540-727-0300.
