Police Search for Inmate Mistakenly Released from Va Jail

November 4, 2010

Authorities are searching for an inmate who was mistakenly released from the Riverside Regional Jail.

Petersburg Commonwealth's Attorney Cassandra S. Conover told The Progess-Index that steps are being taken to ensure circumstances that led to Shervon Vonte Brown's release don't happen again.

Brown was convicted in August on robbery and firearm charges. He didn't appear for a sentencing hearing on Oct. 27 and officials discovered that he'd been released on Oct. 19.

Brown says prosecutors and court officials thought he was still in jail on an unrelated charge, so bond wasn't addressed. But Brown had completed his sentence on that charge and was released.
