According to Roanoke County police, 12-year-old Brittany Mae Smith has been found safe. Jeffrey Scott Easley, 32, has been taken into custody.
At a news conference in Roanoke, police say they found Smith and Easley after they were spotted at a retail store in San Francisco.
Someone in the store recognized the two after seeing the posters and billboards that are up across the nation.
San Francisco Police were notified shortly after 6 p.m Friday night. They were able to arrest Easley with no resistance and place Smith in safe hands.
Police say Smith looked unharmed and well. As soon as travel arrangements can be made, she will return to her family in Virginia.
The Amber Alert was issued for Smith on Monday after police found the body of her mother inside a home in Salem. Investigators say 41-year-old Tina Smith's death is being investigated as a possible homicide, but have not publicly released a cause.
Police are continuing to work on the investigation with San Francisco police.
