Publisher Replacing Erroneous Va. History Books

January 12, 2011

Two history textbooks that contain multiple errors will be replaced without charge to Virginia schools.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Five Ponds Press is revising "Our Virginia: Past and Present" and "Our America to 1865" with the help of a historian. The revised textbooks will be available online January 15. Replacement books for schools and divisions that bought first editions will be available this summer.

Five Ponds Press publisher Lou Scolnik says in a statement that the company apologizes for any trouble its mistakes have caused.

A panel of history experts who reviewed the textbooks found errors in facts and dates, including the number of states in the Confederacy and the wrong year for the start of World War I.
