Sailor Injured Aboard Submarine Heading Home to Virginia

The Navy is responding from Virginia and Florida to assist an injured sailor.

U.S. Second Fleet in Norfolk said Wednesday it has dispatched the aircraft carrier USS George H.S. Bush and the Florida-based frigate USS Boone to assist the injured sailor, who suffered a head injury aboard a submarine. The Navy did not identify the submarine or its exact location.

The sailor is reported in stable condition.

The Bush and the Boone are involved in training operations in the Atlantic. The Bush was sailing home to Virginia.

A fleet surgeon is among the medical professionals heading to the submarine.
