School Bus, Big Rig Involved in I-64 Crash; 11 Students Injured

State police say 11 Chesterfield County students were treated for minor injuries at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center after their school bus, a public-transit bus, a tractor trailer and one other car were involved in a crash on Interstate 64 near Richmond.

Sgt. Thomas Molnar says that the crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Monday on I-64 eastbound just east of the Shockoe Valley Bridge. It forced the closure of one of the eastbound lanes, causing some delays until the accident was cleared about two hours later.

WTVR in Richmond reports the bus was taking students from Manchester Middle School to the Math Science Innovation Center, according to a statement from Chesterfield Schools Spokesman Shawn Smith.

Molnar describes the injuries as mainly cuts and bruises. The school system contacted all parents of students involved in the accident.
