The entry deadline for the State Fair of Virginia's arts, crafts and crops competitions has been extended.
The deadline for entries is now next Friday.
This year's competitions at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County will include fresh produce, baked goods, pumpkins, honey, preserves, photography, sewing and needlework.
New categories such as a cookie competition will allow kids to enter with their parents, grandparents and guardians.
Virginia Farm Bureau Federation President Wayne Pryor says due to the shorter planning period for this year's fair, some of the traditional competitions won't be available, but he hopes to bring them back next year.
The federation and Tennessee-based Universal Fairs now own and operate the fair and other park events. Universal purchased the property in May from the debt-ridden former operator.
