Steven Spielberg's new movie about Abraham Lincoln is seeing positive reviews and Virginia is benefiting.

The movie was filmed here in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but it premiered in Los Angeles last night.

The drama focuses on the 16th president's tumultuous final months in office, surrounded by war and divisive social issues such as slavery. It's a movie set in the past, but Spielberg says it's meant to shed light on today's issues.

"This is the most important thing is to get "Lincoln" done right to get get "Lincoln" in a kind of, not in a parallel universe with today, but to hold a mirror up to what is happening today politically, with the government and in peoples homes." said Speilberg. "This movie really is about how democracy works. There is real drama in democracy and that is what this film tries to exemplify."

Officials say the Richmond and Petersburg areas made more than 64 million dollars off the movie. Central Virginia residents can see it when it opens nation-wide next Friday, November 16th.
