State Employee Donations to Va. Charities Are Down

December 20, 2010

State employees' donations to Virginia's annual charity drive are down about 20 percent from 2009.

Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign program manager Anne Dinterman tells The Daily Progress that employees have contributed $2 million so far.

The campaign's goal is $4.4 million. Dinterman says she's confident the goal will be met. The deadline for donations is Jan. 20.

State employees donated $3.8 million last year.

The campaign provides funding to more than 1,300 charities
across Virginia.

Michael McKee with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank says
unemployment and underemployment are continuing and the donations are needed more than ever.
