Student Arrested, Dorm Evacuated in VCU Drug Probe

April 18, 2012

A Virginia Commonwealth University student is facing drug charges following an investigation that led to the evacuation of a dorm.

University police tell media outlets that 27-year-old Tyler Herndon is charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance, the designer drug DMT.

VCU police evacuated Warner Hall as a precaution on Tuesday after they found unidentified compounds and liquids in Herndon's room. Police allowed students to return to the dorm about two hours later.

It's the second drug-related evacuation of a college residence hall in Virginia this year.

In late March, authorities evacuated a residence hall at Christopher Newport University after a suspected methamphetamine lab was discovered in one of the rooms.
