NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (AP) - A Virginia landmark and tourism attraction once owned by Thomas Jefferson has a tentative buyer.

Roanoke-based Woltz & Associates says it has reached a tentative agreement with a nonprofit conservation organization to buy the privately owned Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County.

The 1,600-acre property that includes Natural Bridge Caverns and a 150-room hotel was to be auctioned off in December. It includes the 215-foot-high limestone arch that was carved naturally by the creek that runs under it.

The Roanoke Times reports that the organization isn't being named until the sale is complete. It plans to get the landmark into a park system.

The property's primary owner is Washington, D.C., businessman Angelo Puglisi. There were no buyers in 2007, when the entire property was listed for sale for $39 million.
