Tourist Killed in Israel Previously Lived in Virginia

December 22, 2010

Authorities say an American woman who was stabbed to death while hiking in Israel over the weekend had connections to the Washington area.

The U.S. Department of Education said Tuesday that 44-year-old Kristine Luken worked for the agency from 1991 to 2007, ending as an accreditation analyst.

Property and telephone records indicate that Luken lived in the Loudoun County, Virginia communities of Sterling and Round Hill before moving to Nottingham, England last year to work for a
Christian group.

That organization, the Church's Ministry among Jewish People, says Luken was appointed administrator of its U.K. operations in October 2009.
