Tourist Slain in Israel Worked at Va. College

December 23, 2010

Staffers at a Christian college in Purcellville are mourning the loss of a former colleague who was stabbed to death while hiking in Israel.

Patrick Henry College spokesman David Halbrook said Wednesday that Kristine Luken was a kind, gentle individual who was widely admired at the school. She worked in the college's accreditation and compliance office from October 2007 through April of 2009.

A friend of Luken who survived the attack Saturday near Jerusalem says the perpetrators were two Arab men. Police suspect the assault was politically motivated, though it could have been criminal.

Luken left Patrick Henry College to work in Nottingham, England, for a group called the Church's Ministry among Jewish People.
