(AP) - A Virginia State Police trooper is being treated for injuries after a Jeep Grand Cherokee hit his parked vehicle in a work zone in Chesapeake.
State police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya tells media outlets that the accident occurred at about 1:25 a.m. Wednesday in the work zone at the Gilmerton Bridge.
Anaya says Sgt. V. Smith was sitting in his vehicle when the other vehicle hit it head-on. The emergency lights on Smith's vehicle were on to alert drivers about the road work.
Smith was taken to a local hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.
Anaya says state police charged the Jeep's driver, 24-year-old Billinda Colonna, of Zuni with driving under the influence maiming.
