Two Va. Police Officers Charged in Fatal Accident

November 4, 2010

Two Norfolk police officers face involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving charges stemming from an accident that killed a bicyclist.

A grand jury indicted 24-year-old Derek M. Folston and 25-year-old Joey G. Bennett Jr. on Wednesday. Norfolk police say a police vehicle hit Donnell Worsley on July 25 as he rode his bicycle on Brambleton Avenue. Worsley died on Sept. 24.

Bennett's attorney, John Babineau, says the incident was an unfortunate accident but not a criminal act.

Police spokesman Chris Amos says Folston and Bennett remain on administrative duty.
